ProFix Gel Knee Pads, Pair

What it is for

Knee protection is bought once and used for years, and the difference between a good pad and a bad one is what happens after an hour: a gel or memory-foam insert spreads the load, a hard shell takes the impact from a gravel drive. A strap that cuts in, or a pad that slides down the leg, means it comes off.

A rolling kneeler is the alternative where the work is a long low job rather than constant kneeling — a brake line or a sill — because it lets you move along without standing up. Choose by whether you kneel in place or move; the wrong one is the one left in the van.

Specification detail

Supplied as a pair of knee pads with a gel or memory-foam insert and a hard outer shell, or as a rolling kneeler with a padded top and castors. Straps are adjustable and wide, so they load the calf rather than the back of the knee.

• Gel or memory-foam insert spreads the load instead of concentrating it on the kneecap
• Hard outer shell takes impact from gravel and workshop floors
• Wide straps that do not cut in behind the knee
• Rolling kneeler lets you move along a sill without standing up
