What it is for

Cut resistance is a level, not a claim. The A2/L2 grades stop a straight blade from a box cutter and are comfortable enough to wear all day; the L5 grade is for handling sheet metal, glass and serrated trim and is noticeably stiffer. A workshop that issues one pair for everything either buys gloves nobody wears or gloves that fail.

The level refers to the palm. Coating matters separately: a nitrile or PU palm keeps grip on an oily component, which is where a cut actually happens — the hand slips, and the slip puts the blade into the hand. Replace them when the coating is worn through, not when the fabric has a hole.
