ProFix 40 cm Floating Wall Shelf, 15 cm Deep

What it is for

A floating shelf is chosen on two numbers and neither of them is the colour: the length, because it decides how many fixing points you need and where the studs have to fall, and the depth, because a 15 cm shelf holds paperbacks while a 25 cm shelf holds a printer. Everything else follows from those two.

These carry a concealed bracket inside the shelf body, so the shelf sits flush to the wall with no visible support. The load figure is given per shelf on a solid wall — on plasterboard the bracket has to land on a stud or on a hollow-wall anchor rated for it.

Specification detail

40 cm long and 15 cm deep, in carbon steel with a matte black finish and a concealed steel bracket inside the shelf body. Fixing screws and wall plugs supplied; the bracket bears on two points, so a stud finder is worth having before the drill comes out.

• Concealed bracket inside the shelf body — no visible support, flush to the wall
• 15 cm depth takes books, boxes or a printer, whichever the wall is for
• carbon steel with a matte black finish, stable in a kitchen or an unheated garage
• Fixing screws and plugs chosen for the bracket rather than for the box
