What it is for

The bracket is the part that fails, not the shelf. A pressed steel bracket rated for 20 kg per pair on a solid wall is an honest figure; the same bracket screwed into plasterboard with the wrong plug will come down with a shelf of paint tins on it. That is why the load rating here is given per pair and with the substrate named.

The range covers the four situations that actually come up: an L-bracket for an ordinary wall shelf, a heavy-duty pair for worktop thickness, a folding pair where the shelf has to drop out of the way, and a corner pair where two runs meet and a straight bracket cannot be fixed at all.
