What it is for

A wash mitt and a sponge do the same job differently: the mitt traps grit in the pile so it is carried away from the paint, while a sponge holds more water and is better for the lower panels and wheels where a mitt gets heavy. Both are here because a wash round needs both, and neither should touch the paint once it has been on the ground.

The chenille mitt is the one to use on the upper panels — the deep pile is what stops the grit you picked up on the last pass scratching the next one. The sponge is fine for sills and bumpers. Wash both after every vehicle and never leave them in a bucket, where they simply reload with grit.

Chenille Mitt and Sponge Wash Kit, 2-piece kit, in microfibre chenille and open-cell foam. The mitt has an elasticated wrist cuff and a mesh back for rinsing grit out; the sponge is a large-pore foam that releases water as it is pressed. Machine-washable at 40 °C.
