What it is for

Polishing pads do the cutting, and the mistake that costs paint is using a cutting pad for a finishing step, or the same pad for both. These are colour-coded by cut so the sequence is visible on the shelf, and the PU foam is a closed-cell foam that holds compound on the face rather than soaking it into the backing.

The backing-plate diameter has to match the polisher, which is why the pads are sold by plate size rather than by overall diameter: a 125 mm pad is for a 125 mm plate. Wool pads are included for heavier cutting, and the hand pads are for the areas a machine cannot reach.

4 Hand-Held Foam polishing pads, 100 mm plate fit, in PU foam with a hook-and-loop backing. Colour-coded by cut; wool pads have a natural-fibre face, hand pads are shaped for grip. Machine-washable, but do not tumble dry.
