What it is for

The adjustable wrench is the tool that damages more fasteners than any other, and nearly always because of jaw play: the movable jaw racks sideways under load and the corners of the nut go with it. The answer is a worm screw with a spring-loaded jaw that keeps the two faces parallel.

Choose by the capacity you need rather than by overall length — the jaw opening is the number that decides the job. The scale on the jaw lets you set a size by eye instead of test-fitting it, which is what stops the adjustment creeping mid-turn.
